An artist I admire is Ben Heine. I didn't know of his work until about 3 weeks ago. His work is different because he combines different art forms into a beautiful, and unique art work.
63 by Ben Heine
This artwork is named 63. This image is part of a series, or project named "Pencil vs Camera". Heine first draws a detailed image of an object, person, or animal. He then draws in the background in which he wants the object placed. Then, he holds up the drawn image, in front of the camera lens, to fit in perfectly with the surrounding background, and then takes a photo of both the drawn image, and the surroundings.
I like this image because the lion looks realistic due to the detail. I also like the contrast of the dark, night setting, with the colorful, daytime surroundings. The drawing creates a new scene and element to the surroundings, which then creates a story. Another thing I like is how perfectly matched everything is, to the tiles, steps, walls, and edges of the buildings. This is a perfect combination of pencil and camera.
Julia by Ben Heine
This artwork is named Julia. Here, Heine combines acrylic paint and a person. This is part of different series named "Flesh and Acrylic". I'm not sure if he paints the background first and then the person or whether he paints them both at once. In his series, he uses bright colors. He tends to use thick, bold, straight lines, often patterned, with paint splatter on top.
In this particular image, Heine couples two lines, a light blue and dark blue line. These dark lines oppose the bright yellow background. Throughout the image are red lines, that curve, or diagonal through the coupled blue lines. I really like how at the top and left side of the woman's face, the colors are perfectly blended that you can't tell where she ends or begin. It looks as if she is coming out of the painting,or blending/melting into it. This is his best image blending flesh and acrylic.
Brussels By Night by Ben Heine
This is a photo, named Brussels By Night. This is one of the many photos by Ben Heine. The image above, isn't the original photo taken. He first took the photo of the buildings and road. He then must have used Photoshop or some other photo editing software to produce the photo above. He does this for all of his photos. Not a single photo, is naturally lit, or just natural in general. He edits all of his photos to make the colors more rich, or to just add more color, or color pops.
I like this photo because of the color. I like how all of the colors compliment one another, meaning not one color pops more than the other. I also like how the streaks of color in the road represents the busy street. Even without the color I would like this photo, just not as much. The color adds a different vibe and feel to the photo. The lines in the road are actually leading lines to the building on the upper left side of the photo.
